Historic centre
Sleeping within the grid of straight streets around the Plaza del Adelantado puts the city on foot. You have the cathedral, the Concepción church and the palaces of La Carrera a few steps away, and at night the bars and terraces filled by students, especially around the Cuadrilátero and Calle Herradores.
Almost everything is pedestrianised, so do not count on parking at the door. There are plenty of restored Canarian houses, with wooden patios and few rooms.

La Trinidad and the university area
Next to the old town, the Avenida de la Trinidad is where the tram terminus is, taking you to central Santa Cruz. Around it are modern buildings, the university's central campus and more traffic. It is a convenient spot if you will be moving often between the two cities or coming for work or study.

La Cuesta and Taco
Halfway to Santa Cruz, La Cuesta and Taco are residential districts crossed by the tram. They hold little tourist interest, but there are apartments and local services, and in a few stops you are in the old town or the capital. It is a functional option for long stays or for anyone looking for an ordinary neighbourhood.

Las Mercedes and the gateway to Anaga
North of the city, the road climbs through farmland to the Las Mercedes forest, gateway to the Anaga Rural Park. Here there are rural houses surrounded by greenery and laurel forest, close to the Cruz del Carmen viewpoint and the massif's trails.
It suits you if you want to be in the hills early to walk. You need a car and something warm: mist and cool weather are common here.
Tenerife North airport is also very close, at Los Rodeos.
