Puerto de Mogán

The canal quarter has low houses, stone bridges and a quay where fishing boats and yachts sit side by side. Staying here lets you stroll its alleys when the day visitors leave and have dinner by the water. There are few places to stay and almost all are small, so it suits couples and travellers who prefer a village atmosphere to a large resort. The harbour beach, with sand and calm water, is a few steps away.

Playa del Cura and Taurito

East of the port, the coast road passes two ravines with small beaches and buildings stepped up the hillside. They are areas of hotels with pools, very quiet, where you go to rest rather than go out. You will need the bus or a car to eat out or go shopping.

Best-rated in this area: Riviera Vista, with a score of 8.4 from 1,951 reviews.

Puerto Rico and Amadores

It is the area with the most choice in the municipality. Puerto Rico has a large marina, boat trips to see dolphins or go fishing and a shopping centre with bars and restaurants. Amadores, next to it, has a pale-sand beach protected by breakwaters, with calm water and a promenade linking it to Puerto Rico. It is the choice of many families. Many apartments sit up on the hillside, so ask about the slopes if you are travelling with a pushchair or older people.

Arguineguín

This fishing town, at the eastern end of the Mogán coast, keeps its local life, its fishermen’s guild and Las Marañuelas beach. It works for anyone looking for a place with locals and everyday shops, and has good motorway links with the airport and Las Palmas.

Mogán village

The inland village, a few kilometres up the ravine, has rural houses among orchards and mountains. You will like it if you want silence, walking routes and a car to drive down to the coast.

Best-rated in this area: Villas Opal Anfi Tauro, with a score of 9.0 from 252 reviews.
