Historic centre

The straight streets rebuilt after the 1706 eruption keep their Canarian mansions, convents and squares shaded by laurels. Around Plaza de la Libertad are the church of Santa Ana, the former convent of San Francisco and the bars where locals eat. Places to stay are small, many in houses with wooden courtyards.

The avenue along the coast links the Castle of San Miguel with the natural lava pools.
