Costa Adeje and Playa de las Américas

This is the island's largest resort area, in the south, where sunshine is most reliable. Costa Adeje has beaches such as El Duque and Fañabé, long promenades and resorts with pools designed for families. Playa de las Américas, next to it, has more bars, nightlife and music venues. Tenerife South airport is close by, and so is the Siam Park water park.

Los Cristianos

It began as a fishing village and still has a small old centre by the port, where the ferries to La Gomera leave. Los Cristianos and Las Vistas beaches have calm water, easy for swimming with children. It is a little more laid-back than Las Américas, with many long-stay visitors in winter.

Puerto de la Cruz

In the north the landscape is greener and the climate fresher. Puerto de la Cruz has an old town with squares and Canarian houses, the seawater pools of Lago Martiánez, the Botanical Garden and Loro Parque. The Orotava valley and the northern route up to Mount Teide are close by. It is chosen by those who want a town with local life as well as a beach.

Santa Cruz and La Laguna

The capital has shops, museums such as TEA, the Auditorio de Tenerife by the sea and Las Teresitas beach in San Andrés. A tram links it with San Cristóbal de La Laguna, a World Heritage city with an old town of straight streets and grand houses. Both are a good choice for business trips or for exploring the Anaga mountains.

Los Gigantes and Puerto de Santiago

On the west coast, the cliffs of Los Gigantes plunge into the sea beside a marina where boats leave for whale and dolphin watching. It is a quiet area for couples.
