Where to stay in Bocairent: the best areas

Medieval quarter

Sleeping in the Barri Medieval means waking up among stone alleys, arches and stairways, a step from the church of La Asunción. In the evening, when the groups leave, the quarter goes quiet and you have it almost to yourself. There are plenty of restored old houses turned into rural accommodation, often with only a few rooms.

Cars can't enter much of the quarter. You usually leave the car below and walk up with your luggage, so travel light or ask beforehand where to park.

Lower town

Around the access road and the newer streets is the flat part of Bocairent. You have shops, everyday bars and street parking, with the old town a walk uphill. It suits families with pushchairs, older travellers and those who'd rather not carry bags up slopes. From here you also head straight to the ravine and the Covetes dels Moros.

Country houses of the Serra de Mariola

The municipality reaches deep into the Serra de Mariola Nature Park. In the mountains there are masías, traditional farmhouses, and country houses rented whole, designed for groups, hikers and those seeking silence. They are convenient if you'll be hiking in the sierra for several days, but you need a car for everything, even to go down to the town for dinner. Check the access road carefully, as some are unpaved.

Ontinyent and around

Ontinyent, the main town of the Vall d'Albaida, is a few kilometres away by road. It has more services, shops and restaurants, and a station on the line between Xàtiva and Alcoi. It's an alternative on busy weekends, especially when Bocairent is holding its fiestas, or if you're combining it with other inland Valencian towns. From there it's a short drive up to Bocairent.
