Old town and the hill

Central Cullera sits at the foot of the castle hill, between the river JΓΊcar and the beach. Here stands the tower housing the museum devoted to the corsair Dragut, and from these streets the climb to the sanctuary begins. Sleeping in the old town gives you shops, a market and local bars, with the C1 line station to Valencia a short distance away. Outside summer this is where life goes on, when many beach apartments close.

Best-rated in this area: Casa de Koras, with a score of 9.6 from 26 reviews.

San Antonio beach

San Antonio is Cullera’s big town beach, with a long promenade, apartment towers and a wide choice of restaurants and terraces. It suits you if you want the sand at your door and to go out to dinner without the car. In summer it is the busiest area with the most going on at night, so ask for an inside room if noise bothers you.

Best-rated in this area: Edificio El Sol, with a score of 8.4 from 98 reviews.

El RacΓ³ and the lighthouse

To the north, the RacΓ³ bay has more sheltered water and a lively atmosphere in season, with beach bars and its own promenade. Past El RacΓ³ the coast turns rocky around the lighthouse, with small coves and developments on the hillside. It is the option for anyone after sea views and less traffic, although the slopes make a car useful.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Santamarta, with a score of 8.6 from 5,457 reviews.

Marenyet and l'Estany

Across the mouth of the JΓΊcar, to the south, stretch the beaches of Marenyet and l'Estany, more open and with fewer buildings. Next to the latter is the lagoon that gives it its name, ringed by rice restaurants. It is a good spot for families wanting space on the sand and calm, and for anyone who wants to cycle out to the rice fields, with the centre a few kilometres away by road.
