Where to stay in Villajoyosa: the best areas

Old town and Playa Centro

Villajoyosa's old town occupies the rise between the river Amadorio and the sea, with the church of the Asunción at the top and its colourful façades looking over Playa Centro. Staying here puts you within walking distance of the promenade terraces, the beach and Vilamuseu. It is the option for anyone who wants to live the town up close and go out to dinner without a car. The old town's streets have slopes and steps, worth bearing in mind if you have suitcases.

Best-rated in this area: Hostal Rosa, with a score of 8.9 from 1,101 reviews.

Harbour and fishermen's quarter

Close to the centre is the fishing harbour, with its fish market and a fleet that still works. Around it are fish and rice restaurants and a more local feel than on the promenade. In the afternoon you can watch the fishing boats come in to the quay. It is a good area if you are interested in seafaring life and want to be a short walk from Playa Centro.

The newer town

The areas that grew outside the old town have wider streets, shops and supermarkets. Here and on the outskirts are the chocolate factories that open for visits. It suits you if you are travelling by car or staying several days, because getting around and parking is easier. The stops on line 1 of the TRAM, which links Alicante and Benidorm, are handy for trips along the coast.

Coves and coastal developments

On either side of the old town the coast alternates between rocky coves and small beaches, such as ParaΓso or Torres, the latter next to the Roman funerary tower of Sant Josep. Above them are quiet developments of apartments and villas with sea views, many with pools. You will need a car or the TRAM to reach the centre, but you will have an easy morning swim. It is the choice of couples and of anyone coming to rest for several days away from the bustle of the promenade.
