Where to stay in Xàtiva: the best areas

Old town and the Seu

The streets climbing from the Seu towards the castle hillside form the most monumental Xàtiva. Around you are the Hospital Real, the Font dels 25 Canals, the Font de la Trinitat and several stone palaces. The path up to the castle starts here on foot, ideal for an early start. It is a quiet area at night, with slopes and little room for cars. Many noble houses keep coats of arms and courtyards, and at night the streets are lit by lanterns.

Best-rated in this area: LA MOMA Apartments & Room, with a score of 9.2 from 866 reviews.

Albereda de Jaume I

The Albereda is the large tree-lined promenade separating the old town from the modern part. Half the city strolls here in the evening, and along its sides are cafés, terraces and restaurants. Sleeping along this axis puts you between the buzz and the monuments, with everything within walking distance. It is the option for those who want to go out to dinner without worrying about getting back. In summer the trees give shade and the terraces stay full until late.

Newer town and the station

To the north lies modern Xàtiva, with avenues, shops and the railway station. Cercanías line C-2 links the city with Valencia, so it is a good spot for combining both without driving. The streets are flatter and the old town is a short walk away. If you stay near the tracks, bear in mind the walk to the Seu is slightly uphill.

Neighbouring Costera villages

Around Xàtiva are small villages such as Novetlè, Canals or l'Alcúdia de Crespins, surrounded by market gardens. They offer rural houses and a slower pace. You will need a vehicle to come and go, but in return you get distant views of the castle and easy access to the rest of the district. In the district's villages you will also find traditional restaurants and local festivals, with fewer tourists than in the city.
