Centre and the Santa Anna quarter

Oliva’s old town climbs the slope of Santa Anna hill, with narrow streets, remains of the castle and the birthplace of the Enlightenment scholar Mayans, now open to visitors. Staying here puts you close to the bars, bakeries and municipal market, and lets you see the town as locals live it. To get to the beach you will need a car or bike, as the coast is a few kilometres away by road.

Best-rated in this area: Las Dunas, with a score of 8.4 from 1,948 reviews.

Pau Pi and Terranova beaches

The coast nearest the town has Pau Pi and Terranova beaches, with a promenade, apartments and beach bars. It is the stretch with most services in summer, with lifeguards, sunbed hire and beach bars. You will like it if you want fine sand, shallow water for children and some evening atmosphere. Much of the accommodation is apartments let by the week, designed for families.

Best-rated in this area: Oliva Suites, with a score of 9.6 from 141 reviews.

Aigua Blanca and the southern beaches

To the south, towards Dénia, the coast is more open, with protected dunes and beaches such as Aigua Blanca. There are campsites, low-rise houses and very few tall buildings, with boardwalks crossing the dunes to the water. It is the area for peace and quiet, caravans or tents, and for exploring the Marjal de Pego-Oliva, with the clear waters of the river Bullent close by.

Best-rated in this area: Adosadito Playa Oliva, with a score of 9.4 from 33 reviews.

Oliva Nova

Oliva Nova is a large seaside resort with a golf course, apartments and villas. It is designed for long stays, sport and families who want a pool and the beach without leaving the complex. Bear in mind that Oliva has no train, so in any of these areas a car is almost essential for reaching Gandia, Dénia or the town centre. The crowd is mostly foreign residents and travellers who come back every year.

Best-rated in this area: Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Hotel, with a score of 8.5 from 1,542 reviews.
