Where to stay in Dénia: the best areas

Centre and Marqués de Campo

If you want to do everything on foot, look between Calle Marqués de Campo and the foot of the castle. Terraces, shops and restaurants serving rice dishes and red prawns are on your doorstep, and the climb to the castle starts a few streets away. It is the area for people coming for a weekend or just a few days who do not want to depend on a car.

Baix la Mar and the port

Baix la Mar, with its low, colourful seafarers’ houses, lies between the castle and the port. Here you are next to the ferry terminal, so it is a logical option if you are taking the ferry to Ibiza, Formentera or Majorca. The streets have bars and an evening buzz, and La Marineta Cassiana town beach is close by to the south.

Les Marines

To the north stretches a long line of sandy beaches, with names such as Les Bovetes, L’Almadrava and Les Deveses. Apartments, developments with pools and campsites dominate. It is the choice for families with children who want to walk down to the sand without taking the car. To get to the centre, though, you will need the car, a bike or the town bus.

Les Rotes

South of the port the coast turns rocky, with coves of very clear water, the Gerro tower and the path that continues towards Cap de Sant Antoni. There are villas, apartments and few hotels. It appeals to couples, snorkellers and anyone looking for calm. The centre is a long walk along the shore or a short bike ride away.

Jesús Pobre and La Xara

Inland, in the shadow of the Montgó, these two villages have rural houses and places to stay among orange groves. They are an alternative for hikers and for anyone who prefers the countryside to the beach.
