Old village below the castle

Vilafamés's streets climb the hillside to the castle, between façades of reddish rodeno stone. At the top, near the church of La Asunción, is the Vicente Aguilera Cerni Museum of Contemporary Art, in the Palau del Batlle. Staying in this part puts everything on foot: the museum, the Roca Grossa, the viewpoints over the Plana and the houses turned into artists' studios.

There are few beds here, mainly rural houses in old buildings. The slopes are serious, so bring light luggage and ask where to park. In return, at night the silence is total and the sky is clear.

Lower village and entrance

The area near the road is flatter and more modern, with homes, everyday bars and easier parking. From here the upper village is a walk uphill. It suits families with small children or people with reduced mobility who prefer to drive to the door. If you spend the day at the museum and come down for dinner, the climb is a short stroll.

Farmhouses in the municipality

Among olive, carob and almond trees are farmhouses rented to groups or families. They give you space, views and calm, with the hills and the village on the horizon. They are very comfortable for stays of several days, but depend entirely on the car. Bring your shopping, as the village shops are few and small.

Sant Joan de Moró

A few kilometres away, by the CV-10 motorway, Sant Joan de Moró is a more modern town with an industrial area and a little more accommodation. It suits business trips or getting around the province: Castellón de la Plana and the Benicàssim coast are a short drive away.
