Inside the walls and the castle

The upper part of Cuéllar, inside the walls, has the most character. Here are the castle of the Dukes of Alburquerque, the Mudéjar churches of San Martín and San Esteban and stretches of wall you can still walk along. At night there is hardly any noise and the streets are very quiet. Bear in mind there are slopes and cars cannot always reach the door.

Plaza Mayor and shopping streets

A little lower down, the Plaza Mayor and the streets around it have bars, bakeries and shops. Next to the square stands the church of San Miguel. Staying in this area lets you go out to dinner without worrying about getting back, and from here it is a short walk up to the castle. During the festival, when the bull runs take place, this is where you feel the atmosphere most, for better and for worse.

Huerta del Duque and the outskirts

Next to the castle begins the Huerta del Duque, a pine wood with paths and picnic areas popular with families. On the edges of town and on the way out towards Valladolid and Segovia there are places with their own parking and easy road access. It suits those travelling with a loaded car or wanting to tour the Segovia pine country without driving through the narrow streets of the old town.

El Henar and the outlying villages

South of Cuéllar, surrounded by pines, is the sanctuary of Nuestra Señora del Henar, much loved throughout the area. This area and the small villages in the municipality, such as Dehesa Mayor or Arroyo de Cuéllar, offer rural houses and total silence, away from road traffic. You will need the car for everything, but in return you have the pine forest on your doorstep and the castle a short drive away.
