Where to stay in Navarredonda de Gredos: the best areas

Navarredonda village

Navarredonda is a mountain village of stone houses and red roofs, in the upper Tormes valley on the north side of Gredos. Staying in the village gives you bars, a bakery and restaurants serving local food, such as beans or Ávila veal. It is a quiet place for couples and families looking for mountain air.

In winter temperatures drop sharply and it can snow. Travel with the car prepared and warm clothes. In summer, on the other hand, the cool nights attract those escaping the Madrid heat.

Pine forests of the Tormes valley

The village is surrounded by pine forest, and in that wooded area on the outskirts there are rural houses and places with gardens. The Tormes rises here, and the setting lends itself to gentle walks among trees and streams. It suits those who really want to switch off, read, walk and eat in. To get to the village or the routes you need a car. At night, away from street lights, the stars are very clear.

Hoyos del Espino

Hoyos del Espino, downstream, is the gateway to the Plataforma de Gredos, the starting point of the route to the Laguna Grande and the Almanzor. There are rural houses and a mountain hotel or two. It suits you if you are coming for high-mountain hiking and want to start early, before the car park fills up. The Tormes runs through the village, with swimming spots in summer and flat riverside walks.

San Martín del Pimpollar and Hoyocasero

To the east are small, quiet villages with rural houses and cattle pastures. Hoyocasero is known for its pine forest, much loved for walks. They are good options if you are looking for lower prices and do not mind driving a little further. San Martín del Pimpollar is on the road to Ávila, convenient if you are coming from the provincial capital.
