Where to stay in Riaza: the best areas

Plaza Mayor

Riaza's Plaza Mayor, surrounded by arcades on wooden columns, is the town's meeting point. Around it are the church of Nuestra Señora del Manto, roast houses, bakeries and bars with terraces under the porches. If you stay in the nearby streets you have everything on foot, and at night the town is very quiet.

This area suits those coming for a weekend of good food, walks and rest, with the Sierra de Ayllón in the background.

Best-rated in this area: HOTEL RURAL LA ROMEROSA, with a score of 8.6 from 577 reviews.

Towards the Hontanares chapel

Heading out of the old town towards the mountains, there is a string of estates with low houses and chalets. This road climbs to the Hontanares chapel, with views over the plain. There are plenty of rental houses with gardens, practical for families or groups who want space and a barbecue. The centre is close, so you can easily pop down to the square for bread or a drink.

Red and black villages

The municipality includes hamlets with very different architecture. Madriguera and Villacorta are built of reddish stone, while El Muyo and Becerril show roofs and walls of dark slate. They have small rural houses and very few services, so they are usually chosen by those seeking complete disconnection and photography.

Bring your shopping or plan to eat in Riaza. The roads are narrow and winding, so drive carefully at night.

La Pinilla and Riofrío de Riaza

In winter the La Pinilla ski resort, in Cerezo de Arriba, draws many visitors. There are apartments at the foot of the slopes for those who want to ski from first thing. In autumn, the highlight is the La Pedrosa beech wood, near Riofrío de Riaza, with rural stays nearby. From Riaza you reach both by mountain road, so staying in town also works if you want to combine snow or forest with its square.
