Historic centre and the cathedral

Upper Zamora stretches along a ridge by the Duero, from the Plaza Mayor to the cathedral and the castle. Along the way come Romanesque churches such as San Juan de Puerta Nueva, La Magdalena and San Ildefonso, and stretches of wall with viewpoints over the river. Sleeping here lets you stroll early, when the streets are empty, and come back at night without the car. It is the natural choice for those coming to see the Romanesque.

Best-rated in this area: Hosteria Real de Zamora, with a score of 8.3 from 3,322 reviews.

Santa Clara and Herreros

Calle de Santa Clara is the city’s shopping street, largely pedestrianised, with shops, cafés and some Modernista buildings. Very close, Calle de los Herreros and the streets around it are the place for wine and pinchos. It suits you if you want street life with the Plaza Mayor a step away.

Olivares and the Duero riverside

Below the cathedral, the Olivares district is one of the oldest, with low houses by the river and the church of San Claudio. On the banks of the Duero are the Aceñas de Olivares, old water mills you can visit. Calle Balborraz climbs steeply from here up to the Plaza Mayor. It is a quiet and very charming area, ideal for couples.

Best-rated in this area: LOS PEPINOS ( mi lugar favorito ), with a score of 9.8 from 86 reviews.

Cabañales and the far bank

Crossing the Puente de Piedra you reach the left bank, with the Cabañales and San Frontis districts. From here you have the best view of the city above the river, especially when the cathedral and walls are lit up. It is more residential with less tourist traffic, and the old town is across the bridge on foot. A riverside path runs along the bank for walking or running.

Best-rated in this area: NH Zamora Palacio del Duero, with a score of 8.8 from 2,600 reviews.
