Inside the walls

The whole village fits inside the walls: the Puerta de la Villa, the old prison, Calle Real, the arcaded Plaza Mayor and the castle at the far end. Sleeping here is the way to really see Pedraza, with the stone streets almost empty at dusk and early in the morning, before the day-trippers arrive. It is more a plan for couples and quiet breaks than for small children with lots of luggage.

The roast lamb restaurants and taverns are in these same streets, so you have dinner and walk back. What there isn’t is room for the car inside: you leave it outside the gate and walk up with your suitcase. The houses are stone, with thick walls: cool in summer and with a fireplace or heating for the winter, which is cold in this area.

By the Puerta de la Villa

Just below the wall, by the approach road and the car parks, there are a few rural cottages and places to stay with parking. It is a convenient solution if you are travelling with family or with limited mobility, as you avoid carrying bags up the slopes and are inside the village in a couple of minutes.

La Velilla and the surrounding hamlets

In the small settlements of the municipality and neighbouring ones, such as La Velilla, there are rural houses with gardens, fireplaces and views of the countryside and the Sierra de Guadarrama. They are a good choice for groups of friends or families renting the whole house who want to explore the area. You need a car for everything, including meals in Pedraza, and in return you get more space and more silence. These hamlets are also handy for trips to Sepúlveda, the Hoces del Duratón or Segovia.
