Plaza Mayor and Calle Collado

The heart of Soria is the Plaza Mayor, with the town hall, the church of Santa María la Mayor and the Audiencia palace. From it runs Calle Collado, a pedestrian shopping street that is the locals’ traditional stroll. Staying around here puts you a few steps from the tapas bars, the Romanesque churches and the rest of the city. It is the simplest choice for a weekend break.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Campos de Castilla, with a score of 7.8 from 617 reviews.

Alameda de Cervantes

The Alameda de Cervantes, which everyone in Soria calls La Dehesa, is the green lung of the centre, with ancient trees, walks and a play area. Beside it are Plaza de Mariano Granados and the Paseo del Espolón, home to the Numantine Museum. It is a pleasant area, a little quieter than the Plaza Mayor, ideal if you are travelling with children and like an early walk.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Alfonso VIII, with a score of 8.9 from 3,327 reviews.

By the Duero

Heading down to the river you reach the stone bridge and the banks of the Duero, with the arches of the monastery of San Juan de Duero on the other side. From here a tree-lined path runs to San Polo and the hermitage of San Saturio, the same walk Antonio Machado used to take. Staying in this part is for those seeking silence and nature, knowing that getting back to the centre means a climb.

Santo Domingo and the north

North of the centre is Santo Domingo, a Romanesque church well worth seeing up close. The surrounding streets are residential and quiet, a short walk from the Plaza Mayor. Parking is usually easier than in the centre, welcome if you are driving to explore the province’s pine forests.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Alfonso VIII, with a score of 8.9 from 3,327 reviews.
