Where to stay in Verín: the best areas

Central Verín

The town centre brings together shops, terraces and restaurants where you can try the local cooking. Its streets run down to the banks of the Támega, where there is a pleasant walk for the evening.

From here you are on the A-52 motorway towards Ourense and Vigo within minutes, and the A-75 to the Portuguese border. It makes sense if you are combining the town with trips around the valley or a jaunt to Chaves. At night it is the liveliest area, and parking in the centre is not a big problem outside festival days.

Best-rated in this area: A Morada do Cigarron, with a score of 8.4 from 1,435 reviews.

Monterrei

The fortress occupies the hilltop west of town, and at its foot is a small hamlet of stone houses. Staying on this side gives you silence at night and open views over the valley and its vineyards. Couples and those coming to switch off prefer it. For more choice at dinner, you drive down to Verín in no time.

Cabreiroá and Sousas springs

On the outskirts are the mineral and medicinal springs that made Verín famous, such as Cabreiroá, Sousas or Fontenova. It is an area of roads and green spaces, halfway between town and countryside. It suits you if you want to learn about the water tradition and get around easily without going into the centre every day. Places to stay are few and scattered, so book early.

Monterrei valley hamlets

Along the Támega valley there are rural houses and wineries surrounded by Monterrei appellation vineyards, in hamlets such as Albarellos. They suit travellers coming for wine tastings, walks in the surroundings and noise-free nights. You will need a car, because although the distances between villages are short, public transport is scarce. At harvest time the wineries are busier and some open for visits.
