Old Town and La Marina

A Coruña’s old quarter sits on a small rise overlooking the port. Here are the collegiate church of Santa María del Campo, the San Carlos garden and the church of Santiago, among cobbled streets that are very quiet at night. Just below, Plaza de María Pita and the glazed galleries of La Marina mark the centre of local life.

This area lets you do almost all your sightseeing on foot and without the car. It appeals to couples and anyone looking for historic streets with bars close by.

Best-rated in this area: NH Collection A Coruña Finisterre, with a score of 9.0 from 2,180 reviews.

Pescadería and the Ensanche

Between the port and the beaches lies the Pescadería, the city’s shopping centre, with Calle Real, Los Cantones and the Obelisco. For tapas, octopus and seafood, the streets of La Franja, La Estrella and Los Olmos are always busy. Further south, the Ensanche has wide streets, the Plaza de Lugo market and a good choice for business trips.

Best-rated in this area: Hostal La Provinciana, with a score of 9.0 from 3,282 reviews.

Riazor and Orzán

The Orzán bay holds Riazor and Orzán beaches, linked by the seafront promenade. You can go for a swim or a surf in the morning and walk to the centre in a short while, as the Pescadería is right behind. The Atlantic views and the promenade make this the favourite area for summer travellers.

Monte Alto and the Tower of Hercules

To the north, the Monte Alto district leads to the Tower of Hercules and its park by the sea. The Aquarium Finisterrae is also close by, on the promenade. It is a quiet residential district, suitable if you want to walk by the ocean every day and do not mind a slightly longer walk to the centre.
