Where to stay in Cedeira: the best areas

Old town and harbour

Cedeira's old quarter huddles by the river, with glazed-balcony houses, narrow lanes and the bridge leading to the newer town. In a few streets you'll find taverns, octopus houses and restaurants where you can try the local goose barnacles. The fishing harbour is right beside it, and its promenade is the evening stroll.

If you want to get around town without a car and have dinner and morning coffee close by, stay here. In summer the terraces are buzzing.

Best-rated in this area: Os Cantís, with a score of 9.4 from 588 reviews.

A Magdalena beach

Cedeira's town beach opens at the head of the estuary, with calm water and a promenade along its full length. The flats and houses here are the choice for families visiting in summer: the sand is in front and the old town a short walk away. From here you can walk up to the Castillo de la Concepción.

Vilarrube

South of the estuary, the river mouth forms Vilarrube beach, surrounded by protected dunes and salt marshes. It's a natural spot with scattered houses and rural accommodation. It suits you if you enjoy walking among birds and coastal plants, or prefer to sleep in the countryside and go into town only to eat.

Pantín and the Valdoviño coast

To the south, in the municipality of Valdoviño, is Pantín, a beach open to the Atlantic whose waves draw surfers from all over Galicia. Around it are holiday rentals and surf schools. It's the area for those coming to surf.

With a car, from here or from Cedeira you can drive up into the Serra da Capelada, to the Garita de Herbeira and San Andrés de Teixido. That route through the hills is the trip you shouldn't miss.
