Where to stay in O Cebreiro: the best areas

O Cebreiro village

The village sits at the top of the pass, where the French Way enters Galicia. It has just a few streets, all of stone, with thatched pallozas, the pre-Romanesque church of Santa María a Real and a handful of inns serving broth and Cebreiro cheese.

Spending the night here lets you see the village once the coaches have gone and set off walking at dawn. Bear in mind that in winter there is fog, wind and sometimes snow, and that beds fill up in pilgrim season.

Pedrafita do Cebreiro

The main town of the municipality is further down, by the A-6 motorway and the old N-VI. Here you will find a petrol station, shops and more services than up top. It is a convenient choice if you are driving, arriving late or if the weather on the pass is bad. The road up to O Cebreiro is short but winding. From the town it is also easy to head down to El Bierzo on the motorway.

Liñares and Hospital da Condesa

Following the Camino towards Triacastela you come to small hamlets such as Liñares and Hospital da Condesa, with rural tourism houses and pilgrim hostels. Between them is the Alto de San Roque, with the statue of the pilgrim walking into the wind. They are very peaceful places, with views of the Os Ancares and O Courel mountains, for those who want to sleep away from the bustle of the pass. In the morning, the trail starts almost at the door.

La Faba and Las Herrerías

On the other side of the pass, in León, the Camino climbs the Valcarce valley among chestnut trees. Las Herrerías and La Faba are hamlets with rivers, meadows and simple accommodation. They suit hikers and pilgrims who prefer to tackle the last climb rested, or anyone looking for a green, cool valley floor in summer.
