Historic centre
Between Spaccanapoli, Via dei Tribunali and the cathedral there are plenty of B&Bs and apartments in old palazzi. The churches, the classic pizzerias and the Archaeological Museum are on foot. It is lively and somewhat noisy at night, ideal if you want to soak up the Neapolitan atmosphere.
Via Toledo and Piazza del Plebiscito
Around Via Toledo and Piazza Municipio there are hotels of every kind, from small pensioni to traditional establishments. The Royal Palace, the San Carlo theatre, the Galleria Umberto I and the ferry port for Capri and Ischia are close. Metro line 1 makes getting around easy.
Chiaia and the seafront
This is the elegant district, with shops, bars and hotels facing the gulf on Via Partenope. From here you can walk to Castel dell'Ovo and enjoy views of Vesuvius. It is quieter than the centre, and the Plebiscito is a stroll away.
Vomero
On the hill, Vomero is residential and cooler, with apartments and small hotels on wide streets. Castel Sant'Elmo and the Certosa di San Martino are close at hand, and the funiculars take you down to the centre in a few minutes.
