The castle

The fortress crowning the hill is now a hotel, and sleeping inside its walls is the experience many come to Cardona for. Once the guided tour groups leave, the courtyard, the collegiate church of Sant Vicenç and the walls fall almost silent, and at sunset the view takes in the Cardener valley and the Salt Mountain.

It suits couples and those who come for the history. To get down to the town you have to walk a steep slope or drive.

Old Town

At the foot of the castle, stone streets lead down to the Plaça Major, presided over by the Gothic parish church of Sant Miquel. Here there are small guesthouses, rooms and apartments, with the town’s bars and restaurants close by. It is the option for those who want to walk between the castle, the square and the shops, and prefer to eat out without depending on the road.

Around the Salt Mountain

South of the old town, by the river, rises the salt mountain and the cultural park that runs the mine visits. It is a more open area, with scattered places to stay and good road access, useful if you are combining the mine and the castle on the same day and want easy parking. The walk along the Cardener is also close at hand.

Farmhouses of the Cardener valley

Around the municipality and towards the Sant Ponç reservoir there are masies and rural houses among cereal fields and pine woods. They are spacious, often with a pool, and appeal to families and groups travelling by car. From here you reach Cardona quickly and are well placed to continue to Solsona or the Pre-Pyrenees.
