Old town

Everything that matters in Solsona is inside the walls. The cathedral, the bishop's palace with the Diocesan Museum, the Plaça Major and the Plaça de Sant Joan are a few minutes from each other. You enter through gateways such as the Portal del Pont or the Portal del Castell, and the stone streets hold long-established bars and shops.

Staying here lets you stroll at night through an old town with almost no traffic. Bear in mind that some streets are narrow and the car usually stays outside. During carnival the old town is full of music until late; the rest of the year it's very quiet.

Around the old town

The streets and promenades around the walls form the newer part of town. Here it's easier to arrive by car and unload your luggage, with the centre a step away. Most everyday services are here too, and the hiking trails around the town start very close. Above the old town rises the Turó del Castellvell, with the castle ruins and views over the rooftops, reached on a short walk. It's the best option if you'll be heading out each day to Cardona or the mountains.

Olius and the Solsonès countryside

Very close by is Olius, with the Romanesque church of Sant Esteve and its modernista cemetery set among rocks. Here and throughout the surrounding countryside there are masías and rural houses among pine forests and cereal fields. It's the choice for families and groups seeking space and silence. You'll need a car, but from here the Miracle sanctuary and the road up to the Port del Comte ski slopes are close.
