The beach area and the station

Almost all of Santa Susanna’s tourist life is by the sea, on the other side of the railway line. Here are the big hotels, many with pools, entertainment and children’s menus, plus restaurants and beach shops. The promenade continues to the neighbouring towns in both directions and is easy to walk or cycle.

The R1 Rodalies station is in the same area, so you can go to Barcelona by train without a car. Families are the usual visitors in summer.

The old village

Inland, across the N-II road, lies the old village, around the parish church. It is quiet and keeps the feel of a Maresme village, with few shops and the odd restaurant. It suits you if you prefer to sleep away from the beach-hotel scene. Walking down to the sea is easy: just cross the road and the railway at the marked crossings.

Farmhouses at the foot of the Montnegre

Inland, the land rises towards the holm and cork oak woods of the Montnegre i el Corredor natural park. This area has farmhouses turned rural holiday homes, with gardens and woodland around them. They are for travellers combining beach and hiking, who make the most of the park’s waymarked trails in the milder months. From here you will need a car for everything.

Malgrat de Mar and Pineda de Mar

The two neighbouring towns share a long beach with Santa Susanna. Malgrat has a centre with more shops and the Parc del Castell on the hilltop, and Pineda a lively old town. Both have R1 stations and greatly widen the options when Santa Susanna’s beach is full. Malgrat sits by the Tordera delta, with wilder stretches of sand. Pineda is a bit larger and has life outside summer too.
