Where to stay in Reus: the best areas

El Mercadal and the Old Town

The heart of Reus fits into a few pedestrian streets. From Plaça del Mercadal you are a step from the Gaudí Centre, the town hall, Casa Navàs and the priory church of Sant Pere. Carrer de Monterols and Carrer de Llovera have most of the shops, and vermouth bars are scattered all over the old town. You need no transport here: you walk everywhere and can go back to rest whenever you like. On weekend nights the square terraces are lively, so ask for an inside room if noise bothers you.

The ravals and Plaça Prim

The ravals are the wide streets that ring the old town, where the walls once stood. It is a lively area, with shops, terraces and many of the Modernista façades on the route. The Teatre Fortuny is on Plaça Prim. Staying on this ring puts the centre two streets away and usually offers wider roads for driving in and out. Many of the merchant houses on the Modernisme route are on these streets, so you step out of the door and are already on the trail.

Around the train station

This part of the city is residential and slower-paced. Its advantage is the station, with regional trains to Tarragona and Barcelona. It suits day trips around the area, or business travellers who need to get around without a car. The old town is a walk away along flat streets. If you travel by train, you avoid dragging your case across the centre.

The airport side

Reus airport is east of the town, beside the Tarragona road. Staying on this side makes sense with an early flight, a hire car or plans for the coast: Salou and Cambrils are close. It is an area of avenues, business parks and shopping centres, so for strolling and dinner you will have to head into the centre. It is also handy for PortAventura, to the south.
