Where to stay in Camprodon: the best areas

Centre and Passeig Maristany

Camprodon's centre is built around the Pont Nou, the stone bridge over the Ter, and the shopping streets leading to the monastery of Sant Pere. Here are the cured meat and biscuit shops, Isaac Albéniz's birthplace, now a museum, and most of the restaurants. Everything is walkable and in the evening the riverside terraces are lively.

On the other side of the centre begins the Passeig Maristany, a tree-lined avenue with early 20th-century summer houses. It is a quiet residential area, a few steps from the old town, with room to park.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Cims de Camprodon, with a score of 9.1 from 2,099 reviews.

Llanars and Vilallonga de Ter

Upstream, on the road up to Setcases and Vallter 2000, come Llanars, with its Romanesque church of Sant Esteve, and further on Vilallonga de Ter. They are small villages with rural houses and apartments, and put you closer to the slopes in winter. In summer they work well for those walking at the head of the Ter valley who want less bustle than in Camprodon.

Molló

To the north-east, on the way to the Coll d'Ares and the French border, Molló looks out over pastures, with the Romanesque bell tower of Santa Cecília as its landmark. It is a more open mountain village, convenient for combining the valley with trips to the French Vallespir. You need a car to get down to Camprodon, but in return you sleep higher and cooler than in Camprodon, welcome in high summer.

Sant Pau de Segúries

To the south, on the road to Ripoll and Olot, Sant Pau is the gateway to the valley. It has less charm than Camprodon and a simpler centre, but it is better placed if you want to alternate the mountains with Sant Joan de les Abadesses, Ripoll or the Garrotxa.
