Platja Gran and the Vila Nova

If you want to walk down to the sand in flip-flops and climb the walls after breakfast, stay by the Platja Gran. Behind the promenade begins the Vila Nova, the fishermen’s quarter that grew up outside the walls, with narrow streets full of terraces, ice-cream parlours and shops. It is the busiest part until late in summer, so you will hear the street here.

From this area you do everything on foot: the Vila Vella, the lighthouse, the museum and the restaurants. You do not need the car at all, which is just as well, because parking in town in August is difficult.

Mar Menuda

North of the Platja Gran is Mar Menuda beach. It is shorter and more sheltered than the Platja Gran, with rocks on either side and a seabed that attracts divers and snorkellers. Around it are residential streets, apartments and less noise at night. To have dinner in the old town you walk a while along the promenade, without steep slopes. It usually appeals to couples and families who prefer a quiet morning swim.

Inland streets

As you move away from the sea towards the entrance to town, things change: apartment blocks, houses with gardens and the odd supermarket. You gain silence and it is easier to park nearby, in exchange for a walk to the shore. It suits long stays and people who cook at home. The buses linking Tossa with Lloret de Mar and Barcelona also pass through here.

Cala Llevadó and Santa Maria de Llorell

To the south, along the Lloret road, there are coves among pines such as Llevadó and the Santa Maria de Llorell development. There are campsites and houses with sea views, and the feeling of being out of town. A car is essential here, but the reward is waking up surrounded by forest and clear water.
