This is the resort built at the foot of the slopes, from where you set off with your skis on or after a short walk to the lifts. Ski shops, schools, equipment hire and restaurants are all at the same level. It is chosen above all by people who want to make the most of the whole day on the slopes without depending on the car every morning.

Outside the ski season things quieten down a lot and some places close, so in summer it is better to stay in the valley villages.

Salardú, Tredòs and Bagergue

These are the villages of Naut Aran closest to the resort. They keep stone houses with slate roofs and Romanesque churches such as Sant Andrèu in Salardú and Santa Maria de Cap d’Aran in Tredòs. Bagergue, on a hillside above Salardú, is one of the highest villages in the valley and the most secluded of the three. They suit families and couples looking for quiet nights and a stroll along cobbled streets after skiing.

Arties and Gessa

Arties is halfway between Baqueira and Vielha, beside the Garona river. It is known for its Aranese restaurants, so it is a good choice if dinner matters as much to you as the slopes. Gessa, next door, is smaller and more residential. From both you reach the resort by car on a short drive along the valley road, and in winter there is a skiers’ bus that stops in the villages.

Vielha

The capital of the Val d’Aran has more services than any other village: supermarkets, pharmacies, shops and bars open all year. It is worth seeing the church of Sant Miquèu and strolling around the old quarter by the Nere river. It suits you if you combine skiing with trips around the rest of the valley or are travelling in a group and want more options for eating and going out.
