Jesús i Maria and La Cava

Deltebre was born from the merger of two villages, Jesús i Maria and La Cava, which stretch along the left bank of the Ebro. Along this strip are the shops, pharmacies, rice restaurants and the natural park's Ecomuseu. The Lo Passador bridge links the town with the other bank. Staying here makes sense for a stay of several days, with services to hand and short trips to anywhere in the delta. Flat cycle lanes also head out from the centre into the fields.

Best-rated in this area: Masia Tinet, with a score of 9.4 from 560 reviews.

Riumar

Riumar is the summer resort, at the end of the road by the river mouth. It has a wide beach of sand and dunes, and boats head out to the open sea from its jetty. The Garxal lagoon is very close for birdwatching. Outside summer there is little going on, which those seeking total calm appreciate. As evening falls, the riverside and beach promenade fills with people coming out to watch the light on the water.

Sant Jaume d'Enveja and the right bank

Across the bridge you reach Sant Jaume d'Enveja, a small village giving access to the Isla de Buda and the south of the delta. It is the bank to choose if you want to explore the rice fields and lagoons on this side without crossing the bridge every day. Restaurants and shops are few, so come prepared.

Rural houses among the rice fields

Scattered along the farm tracks are masies and rural houses surrounded by rice fields. You wake up with the landscape in front of you and the birds at your door. You will need a car or bike to get around, because public transport in the delta is scarce. It is the option for photographers, birdwatchers and families seeking silence. In spring the fields are flooded and in summer everything turns green, so the view from your window changes depending on when you come. Bring mosquito repellent in the warm months.
