Where to stay in Sant Carles de la Ràpita: the best areas

Central La Ràpita

The town, now officially called La Ràpita, has its heart in the great square laid out under Charles III and in the streets running down to the sea. Here are the shops, vermouth bars and restaurants serving rice dishes and prawns. The remains of the Església Nova, the church that was never finished, are a step away.

It is the liveliest area out of season and the most convenient if you don’t want to take the car for dinner.

Best-rated in this area: Miami Mar - Boutique Hotel & Restaurante, with a score of 9.2 from 2,009 reviews.

Harbour and promenade

The fishing port and marina take up the town’s waterfront. In the afternoon you can watch the boats come in and the auction at the fish market, and nearby places serve the catch of the day. The Museu de la Mar de l'Ebre is in this area.

Along the promenade there are apartments overlooking the Alfacs bay, the big draw for anyone after beaches with calm, shallow water, much loved by families with children.

North coast towards the delta

Heading towards Amposta, the coast continues with developments of low houses and apartments facing the bay. It is a quiet residential area for long stays, with room to park. From here the road to the Trabucador and the Trinitat salt pans is closer.

Ebro Delta rice fields

To sleep surrounded by rice fields and lagoons, look for rural cottages and small places to stay in the delta, for example in Poble Nou del Delta. They are the choice for birdwatchers, cyclists on the flat tracks and photographers of sunsets over the flooded fields. Bring insect repellent in summer, as mosquitoes abound at dusk, and a bike if you can.
