Sant Antoni seafront

Sant Antoni is the part of Calonge facing the sea. Everything revolves around its long, flat promenade, with the sandy beach on one side and apartment blocks, terraces and ice-cream parlours on the other. If you sleep on the front or in the streets behind, you walk down to the beach in flip-flops and have supermarkets and restaurants without using the car.

It is the area preferred by families with children and those who come for simple beach days. In summer the promenade is lively until late, but without the party scene of other towns on the coast.

Torre Valentina and the coves

At the southern end of the promenade is Torre Valentina, with its defensive tower beside the beach. From there the coast turns rocky and small coves appear, such as Cala Cristus and Cala Belladona, linked by the coastal path. Staying here puts you closer to clear water and the pine woods, with fewer people than on the big beach. It suits couples and those who like a morning walk along the coast.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Reimar, with a score of 8.4 from 400 reviews.

Calonge village

The old centre of the municipality is inland, a few kilometres from the beach. It has a castle, a church and stone streets, and around it are farmhouses and rural houses among fields and woods. Here the summer is quieter and nights are cooler. You need a car to get down to the sea, but it is a short drive.

Palamós and Platja d’Aro

To the north, right next to Sant Antoni, is Palamós, with its fishing port, the fish market and the Fishing Museum. If you like fish and prawns and want a town with life all year, it is an alternative with more services. To the south is Platja d’Aro, with shops, clubs and the liveliest nightlife in the area: a good option for groups of friends wanting to go out.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Aubí, with a score of 8.0 from 2,953 reviews.
