Espot village

The cluster of stone and slate houses by the Escrita river holds almost all the accommodation: small family-run hotels, holiday flats and rural guesthouses. The 4x4 taxis that go up to the Estany de Sant Maurici lake leave from the square, as access to the park by private car is restricted. There are also outdoor gear shops and restaurants serving Pallars cooking.

It's the natural base for hikers in summer: you set off early on foot or by taxi and come back in the evening to dinner without driving. It fills up early in August, so book well in advance.

Espot Esquí and Super Espot

Above the village, at the foot of the slopes, the Super Espot area has apartments and ski-focused accommodation. You put on your boots and you're at the lift. Outside the snow season it's very quiet and some places close, so check they're open before booking. In winter, also check the state of the access road and carry snow chains.

La Guingueta d'Àneu

Down in the valley, beside the C-13 road and the Torrassa reservoir, La Guingueta d'Àneu has hotels and campsites on the water's edge. It's well placed for exploring the Pallars Sobirà by car, rafting on the Noguera Pallaresa or driving the few kilometres up to Espot. It suits families and those combining mountains with water sports.

Esterri d'Àneu

A little further north, Esterri is the main town of the Vall d'Àneu, with supermarkets, a pharmacy and more restaurants. It's a solid alternative when Espot is full and leaves you well placed for the Bonaigua pass, the Val d'Aran or, in winter, the Baqueira and Espot ski resorts.
