Old town and Santa Maria

The old core climbs from the sea to the church of Santa Maria, with narrow cobbled streets, whitewashed houses and many galleries and small shops. Staying here is the way to really live the village, especially early and late in the day, when there are fewer people. Bear in mind that you can hardly drive inside it and there are plenty of steps, so travel light.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Tarongeta - Adults Only, with a score of 8.5 from 3,999 reviews.

Seafront and Platja Gran

The bay front is the liveliest part. Here you have Platja Gran, the boats pulled up on the sand, the terraces and the statue of Dalí. It is the most practical area if you want to go out for dinner and walk back, and the favourite of couples. On the other hand, in summer it stays busy until late, so if you are a light sleeper look for a slightly tucked-away street.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Tarongeta - Adults Only, with a score of 8.5 from 3,999 reviews.

Es Llané and the path to Cala Nans

To the south, past the centre, the coast continues with rocky coves such as Es Llané, next to the house where Dalí's family spent their summers. It is a quiet residential area, good for families and for swimming without crowds. From here the coastal path leads to the Cala Nans lighthouse, a pleasant walk with views over the bay.

Portlligat

This small bay north of the village is where Dalí had his home, now a house-museum. There are few houses, fishing boats and a very serene atmosphere. It suits you if you want rest and to be closer to Cap de Creus, with its natural park and lighthouse. You can walk to the centre of Cadaqués, although with some slopes. If you bring a car, leave it in the car parks at the village entrance and forget about it during your stay.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Calina, with a score of 9.0 from 2,883 reviews.
