Eix Comercial and La Paeria

The Eix Comercial is the pedestrian route formed by Carrer Major and its continuations, crossing the centre parallel to the river Segre. Along it you pass La Paeria, the town hall, and the Catedral Nova, among shops, cake shops and cafés. Above it, the Seu Vella hill holds the old cathedral and La Suda castle, reached on foot or by the lifts from Plaça de Sant Joan. If you want to see the essentials in little time, stay on this stretch.

Rambla Ferran and the station

Rambla Ferran runs down from Lleida Pirineus station, where the high-speed trains stop, to the centre. It is a convenient area if you arrive by train or have meetings, and from here the Eix Comercial is a short walk. The surroundings have more traffic than the old town, but also more services.

Cappont and Camps Elisis

Across the Segre, the Cappont district is home to the University of Lleida campus and wide streets of modern buildings. On the same bank is the Camps Elisis park, with tree-lined walks and play areas. You will like it if you are travelling with children or want a quiet district with the cathedral in view from the river.

Gardeny and the Pyrenees

The Templar castle survives on Gardeny hill, and the area around it, south of the city, is residential with good road access. If you are using Lleida as a base for the Pyrenees or the villages of the Segrià, it is best to sleep on the outskirts, with a quick way out to the main roads and parking at your accommodation. That way you avoid the narrow central streets with a loaded car.
