What to see in Deltebre

Must-sees

Deltebre lies in the heart of the Ebro Delta, and what people come to see here is the natural park. Rice fields, lagoons, canals and long sandy beaches form a flat landscape that changes colour with the seasons: water in spring, green in summer and gold before the harvest. The park's Ecomuseu, in the town itself, is a good introduction to the delta.

The mouth of the Ebro is best seen by boat, and boats leave from the Riumar area down to the sea. The Isla de Buda and lagoons such as the Bassa de les Olles or the Garxal are key birdwatching spots, flamingos included. Riumar beach, wide and largely undeveloped, is another regular stop.

Free tours and guided visits

Free walking tours are uncommon in Deltebre. The norm here is guided visits and paid trips around the delta. The most common are boat trips to the river mouth, cycling routes through the rice fields and guided birdwatching outings. There are also visits to rice farms, where they explain the growing cycle, and kayak routes on the river.

How long to spend

A full day lets you take the boat to the river mouth, see the Ecomuseu and explore some lagoons by car or bike. If you are interested in birds or want to take it slowly, give it two days: one for the left bank, with Riumar and the Garxal, and another to cross to the right bank, towards the Trabucador and the Punta de la Banya.

Where to stay

Staying in central Deltebre puts you close to services, rice restaurants and the bridge to Sant Jaume d'Enveja. If you want peace and the beach, Riumar is by the river mouth and the departure point for many boats. Rural houses among the rice fields are a good option for those coming to birdwatch at dawn.
