Where to stay in Constantina: the best areas

La Morería and the castle

The Morería quarter climbs the hillside towards the castle, with white houses, sloping streets and corners with views over the rooftops. It is the most characterful part of the village and the loveliest for a stroll at dusk, when the street lights come on and the castle is lit up above.

It suits you if you are looking for somewhere charming to stay and don’t mind going up and down slopes. For parking, it is better to leave the car in the lower part.

Centre and La Encarnación

The lower area, around the church of La Encarnación and its Mudéjar tower, gathers the shops, banks and most bars and restaurants. It is flat, busier during the day and convenient if you are travelling with children or older people.

From here you walk to the Morería and the castle, and easily drive out towards Cazalla, El Pedroso or Las Navas de la Concepción.

El Robledo

On the outskirts is the sanctuary of the Virgen del Robledo, in the middle of a wood with a recreation area and the El Robledo botanical garden. It is the favourite area for anyone coming to walk and see Sierra Norte flora. The places to stay around here are rural and quiet, and you need a car to go into the village for dinner.

The path to the sanctuary is easy and well signposted, and in spring and autumn the wood fills with people out for a walk.

Rural cottages among chestnut groves

The tracks leading out of Constantina cross chestnut and holm oak woods and livestock estates. Along them are whole rural houses rented to groups, with fireplaces for winter and pools for summer. Autumn, with the chestnuts turning gold, is when this option is most tempting.

Ask about access beforehand, as some stretches are unpaved.
