Centre and port

The centre of Fuengirola revolves around Plaza de la Constitución, with the church of El Rosario, and pedestrian streets of shops and tapas bars. On one side is the port, with fish restaurants and boat trips, and on the other the Bioparc. Fuengirola station is the end of the C1 commuter line, with trains to the airport and the centre of Málaga.

It is the area for anyone travelling without a car who wants the beach, shops and transport in one place. At night, the bars around the port and nearby streets keep things lively.

Best-rated in this area: Ona Las Rampas, with a score of 8.5 from 5,382 reviews.

Los Boliches

Los Boliches carries on east from the centre, without a break, along the promenade. It has its own commuter station and a more local feel, with old-school bars and apartment blocks facing the sea. It suits people staying for a long time or looking for something less touristy without being far from the centre, which you can reach by walking along the shore.

Best-rated in this area: Apartamentos Nuriasol, with a score of 8.1 from 6,858 reviews.

Torreblanca and Carvajal

At the eastern end, Torreblanca climbs the hillside with houses and developments looking over the bay. Below, Carvajal beach is more open and less crowded than those in the centre. Both areas have a commuter station, so you can go to Málaga or Benalmádena by train. It is a good choice for families and travellers who prefer calm, although Torreblanca is hilly.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Mainare Playa, with a score of 7.7 from 2,693 reviews.

Around Sohail castle

To the west, past the port, the promenade reaches Sohail castle, on the bank of the Fuengirola river near where it meets the sea. There are wide beaches and a more residential area, with the fairground and the Tuesday market close by. It suits you if you want the road to Marbella close at hand and prefer a more open setting than the centre.
