Moorish quarter

The upper part of Frigiliana is the oldest, with stepped alleys that cars cannot enter. Staying here means opening the window onto white rooftops with the sea behind, and going out for a stroll once the coach trips have left. Accommodation is in houses and small hotels with few rooms. Pack a light case, because there will be steps to climb.

New town and the Nerja road

At the entrance to the village, around the road down to Nerja, are the public car park, the bus stop and several restaurants with terraces. The houses are newer and arriving with luggage is easy. The old town begins just above, so you miss out on nothing.

Countryside and farmhouses of the Almijara

Scattered over the hills around the village are farmhouses, villas with pools and rural houses among olives, avocados and orchards. They are ideal for groups, couples seeking seclusion or hikers who want the Sierra de la Almijara on their doorstep. The access tracks are often narrow and steep, and without a car you cannot get around.

Nerja

If you want to combine village and beach, Nerja is very close, down on the coast. Its centre revolves around the Balcón de Europa, with streets of shops and bars around it, and it has coves and beaches such as Burriana, La Torrecilla and Calahonda. You will find far more accommodation and nightlife.

Maro

East of Nerja, the small hamlet of Maro sits beside the Nerja Caves, above the cliffs of the Maro-Cerro Gordo natural area. It has few beds and plenty of peace, with coves you walk down to. It is a place for those who want a quiet sea and do not mind driving to Frigiliana for dinner or a stroll.
