Where to stay in Cazorla: the best areas

Plaza de la Corredera

La Corredera, which many call the Egg Square for its oval shape, with the town hall and a row of bars around it, is the centre of daily life in the town. From here you walk down steep white streets to the rest of the old town. In the evening it fills with locals out for a drink, and it is easy to have tapas for dinner without the car. It suits those who want services close by: pharmacies, outdoor shops and a supermarket.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Ciudad de Cazorla, with a score of 8.5 from 1,912 reviews.

Santa María and La Yedra castle

The oldest part gathers around Plaza de Santa María, beside the ruins of the church of the same name, built over the river Cerezuelo. Above it rises La Yedra castle, home to the museum of arts and customs of the Upper Guadalquivir. Short trails into the sierra start from this area, and the nights are very quiet.

La Iruela

Right next to Cazorla, La Iruela has a castle on a rock with views over the area’s olive groves. It is smaller and quieter, and sits on the road into the natural park. It suits you if you are driving and want an early start on the trails without crossing the town. Its municipality also includes the hamlet of Burunchel, on the climb into the sierra.

Arroyo Frío and Vadillo Castril

Inside the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas Natural Park, Arroyo Frío is a small hamlet by the Guadalquivir, with rural houses and a restaurant or two. Vadillo Castril, an old forestry settlement, is near the Cerrada de Elías trail, which follows the river between rock walls. You sleep surrounded by pine forest, with deer and mouflon around.

There are few places to eat, and for any shopping you have to drive back to Cazorla on the winding mountain road.
