Walled town and Plaza de San Fernando

Inside the walls you sleep a few steps from the Prioral de Santa María, Plaza de San Fernando and the old town's convents. The streets are narrow, cobbled and very quiet at night, once the day-trippers from Seville have left. Many places to stay are in old houses with courtyards, so this is the closest you will get to living inside the town.

If you are driving, ask beforehand where to leave the car: several streets in the old town are single-lane with tight turns. In return, in the evening you can stroll to the Puerta de Córdoba and watch the sun set over the plain without taking the car.

Best-rated in this area: Parador de Carmona, with a score of 8.9 from 2,192 reviews.

Puerta de Sevilla and Paseo del Estatuto

Right below the Puerta de Sevilla begins the lower part of town, with the church of San Pedro, the Paseo del Estatuto and the Alameda. The ground here is flat and the streets are wider, so getting in and out by car is easy. You have bars and terraces with a local feel, and a short walk takes you up through the gate to the old town. It is also where the buses to and from Seville stop.

Best-rated in this area: El Rincón de las Descalzas, with a score of 8.4 from 1,300 reviews.

Roman necropolis and Avenida Jorge Bonsor

To the west, Avenida Jorge Bonsor leads to the Roman necropolis and amphitheatre. It is an area of houses and shops, less charming than the centre but well connected to the road to Seville. It suits you if you are travelling with children, would rather avoid slopes and want to see the necropolis first thing.

Best-rated in this area: Apartamentos Turisticos Casa Cantillo, with a score of 8.4 from 100 reviews.

Haciendas on the plain

Around Carmona stretches the plain, with farmhouses and olive estates turned into rural accommodation. You need a car, but in return you get a pool, silence and the town's outline against the ridge. It fits a relaxing break or anyone who wants to combine Carmona with other villages in the Seville countryside.
