Puerto de la Duquesa

The marina is the centre of Manilva’s tourist life. Its quays are lined with restaurants, bars with terraces and shops, and there is beach on both sides of the harbour mouth. A step away is the Duquesa castle, with its museum. It is the place for couples and anyone who wants to eat and have a drink without taking the car. Boat trips along the coast leave from here.

Sabinillas

Sabinillas began as a fishing quarter and is still the part where most locals live. Its promenade runs along a wide beach of dark sand, with beach bars and a playground. It has everyday shops and long-established restaurants. It appeals to families and people staying for several weeks, because you can do the shopping on foot. Next to the centre there are also Roman remains.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Doña Luisa, with a score of 8.4 from 1,168 reviews.

Manilva village

Up the hill, surrounded by Muscat vineyards, the village keeps its calm. Around the church of Santa Ana are white streets, simple tapas bars and views of the sea and Gibraltar. Accommodation is limited to houses and apartments, and you need a car to get down to the coast. It is worthwhile at grape harvest time or if you want quiet nights.

Chullera and the western developments

Past the marina, towards the border with Cádiz, the coast becomes lower and wilder around Punta Chullera and its watchtower. Developments with pools, gardens and apartments for long stays abound here. The coves are quiet and the feel is residential. It suits those getting around by car who want Sotogrande, Gibraltar and Estepona close by. For a big shop you will need to go to Sabinillas.
