The marina and La Ribera

It is the only part of Sotogrande where you can manage without a car for a few days. Around the marina are restaurants, shops, terraces and apartments overlooking the boats. La Ribera, the harbour front, is where the summer nightlife is.

The beach is next door and the waterside walk is flat, so it suits couples and families who want the sea and dinner on foot. Outside July and August the marina is much quieter, with fewer places open midweek.

Best-rated in this area: NEW & Modern Apartment - Marina, Sotogrande, with a score of 9.6 from 53 reviews.

Sotogrande Alto and the golf courses

Inland, villas spread among golf courses such as Real Club Valderrama and Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, and the grounds of the Santa María Polo Club. There is plenty of greenery, wide roads and silence.

This is for golfers, polo spectators in summer or groups renting a house. Every errand, including the shopping, is done by car.

Pueblo Nuevo de Guadiaro

It is a real village, with breakfast bars, bakeries, pharmacies and a market. Places to stay are usually cheaper than on the estate, and the tapas bars mostly serve locals. It is a few minutes by road from the beach and the marina, and from here you can also reach San Roque and the coastal motorway. It suits business travellers and those touring the area by car.

Best-rated in this area: NEW & Modern Apartment - Marina, Sotogrande, with a score of 9.6 from 53 reviews.

Torreguadiaro

Across the river mouth, Torreguadiaro is a small beach village with beach bars and a simpler atmosphere. The sand is right in front, next to the Guadiaro Marshes, good for watching birds at sunset. It works for beach stays without the exclusive air of the marina, and the coast of Manilva and Estepona is close by to the east.
