La Barrosa

La Barrosa beach is why almost everyone comes to Chiclana. Behind the sand stretch developments, apartments and hotels with pools, plus supermarkets, ice-cream parlours and restaurants that live mainly from April to October. It is the area for families and anyone who wants to go down to the sand with a towel and come back for lunch without the car.

To eat out or visit the town, people usually go by car or taxi.

Sancti Petri and the marina

At the northern tip of the beach lies the old tuna-fishing village, with its marina, sailing and paddleboard schools and fish restaurants facing the channel. There is little accommodation, but sleeping nearby puts you close to the boats crossing to the castle islet and kayak trips through the marshes. It is a corner for sea lovers and water-sports fans, and at night it falls almost silent.

Central Chiclana

The town itself lies inland, on the banks of the Iro, with the Plaza Mayor and its great church of San Juan Bautista, wineries selling their local wine and long-established bars. Here you sleep surrounded by everyday life rather than tourism, and you have the tram linking Chiclana with San Fernando and Cádiz. The beach is reached by car or city bus.
