Where to stay in Priego de Córdoba: the best areas

El Paseíllo and Calle Río

El Paseíllo, the town hall square, is the town’s meeting point. From there Calle Río, lined with mansions, runs down to the Fuente del Rey. Along this axis are tapas bars, olive oil shops and almost all services, so you do not need the car at all.

It is the area with the most accommodation and the liveliest in the evening, when people come out for a stroll. If you are driving, it is easier to find a space in the outer streets than on this stretch.

Villa quarter and the Adarve

Inside the Andalusí quarter there are few places to sleep, mostly small houses and apartments. In return, you wake up among white, flower-filled streets and can look out from the Balcón del Adarve before the groups arrive. Bear in mind that cars cannot enter and you will have to carry your case over cobbles.

Around the Fuente del Rey

The upper part of Calle Río, by the Fuente del Rey and the Fuente de la Salud, is quieter than El Paseíllo, with the sound of water in the background. It is a stroll from the centre and handy for walks out of town. Early morning is a good time to see the fountains empty and take photos at leisure.

Hamlets and farmhouses of the Subbética

Priego’s municipality is very large and dotted with hamlets among olive groves, such as Zagrilla, by the sierra. Rural houses and restored farmhouses abound, many with pools and views of the olive groves. They suit families, groups and hikers who want the Subbética trails and La Tiñosa, the province’s highest peak, close by. You will need a car to get to town.
