Centre and Cruz del Mar beach

Chipiona’s centre is small and flat, with white streets full of ice-cream parlours, shops and tapas bars. Next to it, Cruz del Mar beach is a step away, at the foot of the castle, which houses an interpretation centre on Cádiz and the New World. Sleeping here lets you walk to the beach in the morning and go out to dinner without watching the clock.

At low tide the fishing corrals appear, stone walls that are part of the landscape of this coast.

Regla beach and the lighthouse

South of the centre is Regla beach, the best known in town, with a long, flat promenade. At one end is the sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Regla and, very close, Chipiona lighthouse. It is the area preferred by families who holiday here: fine sand, calm water and everything at hand without a car. Along the promenade there are ice-cream parlours, beach bars and apartments let by the week. In August it gets packed, so book ahead.

The marina and Las Canteras

To the north, towards Sanlúcar, are the marina and Las Canteras beach. There is less bustle than at Regla and the walk to the centre is easy. It is a good option if you like sailing or fishing, or want somewhere a little calmer without leaving town. At sunset the sun goes down over the sea right in front, and from the harbour breakwaters you get a good view of the Guadalquivir mouth.

Costa Ballena

Between Chipiona and Rota stretches Costa Ballena, a modern seaside resort with a golf course, wide avenues and holiday apartments. The beach is long and open. To get to the town or take trips to Sanlúcar and Jerez you will need a car, but in return you get calm and space.
