Historic centre and the Alcazaba

Almería’s old town spreads out at the foot of the Alcazaba, between the fortress-like cathedral and Plaza Vieja, with the town hall and its arcades. The narrow streets around it are full of bars that give you a tapa with every drink. It is the ideal area for a first visit, because you can walk up to the Alcazaba and dinner is close by.

Paseo de Almería and Puerta de Purchena

The Paseo de Almería is the city’s main street and links the port with Puerta de Purchena. Below it run the Civil War shelters, which can be visited. Nearby are the Central Market and lots of shops. It is a busy area by day, convenient for business travellers or anyone who wants everything at hand, a few steps from the old town.

El Zapillo and the promenade

East of the centre, El Zapillo is Almería’s beach neighbourhood. The promenade runs along El Zapillo beach to Las Almadrabillas, next to the Cable Inglés. Best-rated in this area: Apartaments Paseo Marítimo by Expoholidays, with a score of 8.9 from 991 reviews.

Rambla and the transport hub

Rambla Federico García Lorca is a wide avenue with gardens that runs down to the port and separates the centre from the station district.
