Mijas Pueblo

Mijas Pueblo looks down on the coast from the mountains, with white houses and sloping streets decorated with flowerpots. By day it is full of visitors. In the evening it empties and you can stroll in peace between the bullring, the shrine of the patron saint carved into the rock and the viewpoint on the old wall.

Staying here is worth it if you want silence, hiking routes in the Sierra de Mijas and unhurried dinners. To go down to the beach you need a car or the bus.

Valtocado and the hillsides

Between the village and Fuengirola, the road crosses areas such as Valtocado, with developments, villas and rural houses spread over the hillside. Many have a pool, a garden and sea views. Families or groups travelling by car who want space choose it, with the coast and the village a short drive away.

Best-rated in this area: Mijas paradise anex, with a score of 9.7 from 12 reviews.

Las Lagunas

Las Lagunas is the most populated part of the municipality and adjoins Fuengirola. It is an urban area, with supermarkets and neighbourhood bars. From here you can walk to the beach and to Fuengirola commuter station, with direct trains to Málaga and the airport. It works well if you are travelling without a car and want to combine the beach with trips by train. The downside is that it has little village charm: everyday life in a coastal town rules here.

La Cala de Mijas

On the coast, further south, La Cala de Mijas keeps the air of a fishing village, with its watchtower and the wooden coastal boardwalk across the dunes. It has restaurants and terraces by the sea. It is the alternative if you want a beach with a relaxed atmosphere, away from the tower blocks of Fuengirola. There are golf courses nearby and good seaside walks.
