Plaza del Cabildo and La Peña

The highest part of the village is organised around the Plaza del Cabildo. Here you have the Basilica of Santa María, the Dukes' castle and the La Peña viewpoint, looking down into the Guadalete gorge. A few minutes away is the church of San Pedro, also on the edge of the rock.

If you sleep in this area, you can watch the sunset from the viewpoint and stroll the old town once the day visitors have gone. In return, expect steep slopes, streets barely wide enough for a car and very limited parking. It is best to leave the car below and walk up with little luggage.

Calle Corredera and Paseo de Andalucía

Calle Corredera is the natural entrance to the historic centre and is packed with bars, taverns and shops. Further down is the Paseo de Andalucía, with a viewpoint over the countryside. This strip combines closeness to the monumental area with slightly wider streets and services to hand.

It suits you if you want to walk up to the Plaza del Cabildo but prefer not to live on the steepest slope.

The Arcos reservoir

At the foot of the village, the Arcos reservoir forms a lake with waterside walks and green spaces. Here the ground is flat and places to stay usually have parking, a garden or a pool. From the shore you get a full view of the crag with the white houses on top. It is a convenient area for families and those arriving by car.

Countryside and farmhouses

Around Arcos stretches the Jerez countryside, with cortijos and rural houses among olive groves and cereal fields. If you are going to tour the white villages of the sierra or head down to Jerez and the coast, staying in the country gives you peace and quick access to the roads. You will need a car for any plan.
