Where to stay in Olvera: the best areas

Barrio de la Villa

This is the district around the castle and the church of La Encarnación, on top of the hill. Sleeping here puts La Cilla and the castle viewpoint round the corner, with mountain views when you wake up.

The streets are narrow and very steep, and the car stays lower down. Wear comfortable shoes and travel light. At night, with the castle lit up, it is the loveliest part to stroll.

The village centre

Below the Villa spreads everyday Olvera, with the town hall, shops, tapas bars and bakeries. The slopes continue but are gentler, and there are more places to leave the car.

From here you walk up to the castle and, in the other direction, reach the Los Remedios sanctuary with a stroll to the outskirts. It is a good area to try the local olive oil, which has the Sierra de Cádiz designation of origin.

Best-rated in this area: No 31 Bed & Breakfast, with a score of 9.8 from 78 reviews.

The old station and the Vía Verde

The Vía Verde greenway starts at the old station on the outskirts of Olvera. Around it there are places to stay geared to cyclists and walkers, and bikes can be hired in the area. From the door you set off through tunnels and over viaducts towards the Peñón de Zaframagón and Puerto Serrano. For dinner in the village you will want a car, as the walk up is long.

Torre Alháquime and the countryside

Very close is Torre Alháquime, a tiny white village around the remains of its fortress. It is an alternative for anyone wanting even more peace. Between the two villages, the olive groves hide rural cottages with pools, convenient for groups and families touring the Cádiz mountains by car. Setenil de las Bodegas and Ronda are also within easy reach.
